Gas Boilers

We are partnered with the leading gas boiler manufacturers and can offer Combi, System, and Regular boilers with a warranty period from 2 - 10 years.

A Combi boiler is a high efficiency water heater and a central heating boiler contained within a single compact unit.

  • Combi boilers heat water directly from the mains when you turn on a tap, so you will not require a hot water storage cylinder or a cold water storage tank in the roof space.
    • They are cost-effective and energy-efficient as cold water is heated instantly, rather than being heated and then stored in a cylinder.

System boilers require a cylinder for storing hot water, and a cold water tank in the loft.

  • The core heating and hot water system components are integral to the  boiler.
    • They are compatible with solar water heating systems, delivering environmental benefits as well as the potential of lower energy bills.
Add Smart controls and thermostats to Gas, LPG and Oil fuelled heating systems for your convenience, comfort and energy efficiency.

Add Smart controls and thermostats to Gas, LPG and Oil fuelled heating systems for your convenience, comfort and energy efficiency.

Regular boilers (also refered to as traditional, conventional or heat only boilers) are ideally suited to homes that have an existing traditional heating and hot water system  linked to a separate hot water cylinder.

  • A regular boiler requires a cold water storage tank in the loft to feed the hot water cylinder and another tank that maintains the water level of the central heating system.
    • A regular boiler may be the best option for replacing an existing boiler if your property has an older radiator system, as there is a possibility that it will not tolerate  the higher water pressure that is delivered by system or combi boilers.

Our engineer will visit you on a free no obligation basis to assess your requirements.

LPG Boilers

A LPG boiler operates in a similar way to a gas boiler with the fuel  stored on site in an external tank, rather than being drawn from a mains supply. The fuel is used to heat water in the boiler, which can then be used for hot water or for heating the home via a central heating system.

We are partnered with the leading LPG boiler manufacturers and can offer Combi, System, and Regular boilers with a warranty period from 2 - 10 years.

Our engineer will visit you on a free no obligation basis to assess your requirements.

Oil Boilers

IMG_0036.jpg

Modern oil-fired boilers can be very energy-efficient and manufacturers claim net seasonal operating efficiencies of up to 97%.

As with gas boilers, the highest rated boilers will offer the greatest efficiency, and there are many 'A' rated models in the marketplace. It has been mandatory since April 2007 to install condensing oil boilers to comply with Building Regulations.

  • Condensing technology recycles the hot exhaust gases via an additional heat exchanger to pre-heat the water in the boiler system, reducing your energy consumption and costs.

Modern oil fired boilers do everything their conventional gas fired counterparts can.

  • We are partnered with the leading oil boiler manufacturers and can offer conventional heat only or a combination oil boiler with a warranty period from 2 - 10 years.

Every oil boiler installation is unique, our engineer will visit you on a free no obligation basis to assess your requirements.

Oil Tanks & Bases

We can replace your existing oil tank or install a new one with an appropriate base. Plastic oil tanks should be installed on a flat, level, fire resistant surface, capable of supporting the weight of the tank when fully laden. Where concrete slabs are used, they should be a minimium of 42mm (recommended 50mm) thick.

The base should extend at least 300mm beyond the widest points of the oil tank and fully support the weight of the oil tank.

An oil tank needs to be protected from a fire that may originate nearby so, tanks should be sited a minimum of 760mm from non fire rated boundary wooden fencing and 1800mm from:

  • Non-fire rated eves of a building.
  • Doors & windows.
  • Any appliance flue terminals.
  • A non-fire rated building or structure (e.g. garden shed)

All our tank installations meet the current OFTEC regulations and our engineer will visit you on a free no obligation basis to assess your requirements.

Landlord Gas Safety Checks

landlord checks.jpg

This is requirement under the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998, which is enforced by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE). Your tenants can die as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning from poorly installed or badly maintained gas appliances and flues.

Landlords of  residential properties have a statutory duty to organise an annual Gas Safety Checks by a registered Gas Safe installer.

Our engineers can carry out checks to ensure your property's gas boilers, water heaters and fires are safe for your tenants to use.

Gas Safety

Many of us rely on gas appliances to heat our homes, provide hot water and cook our food.

To make sure your appliances are in good condition and working safely, view the videos and read the tips from Gas Safe Register, it could save your life or a member of your family.

With gas safety our message is clear – you cannot cut corners. Gas Safe Register is the trusted source to find a qualified and legal gas engineer.
— Jonathan Samuel | Chief Executive of Gas Safe Register

Have all gas appliances in your property safety checked annually by a Gas Safe registered engineer. It is of the utmost importance that you see your engineer’s Gas Safe Register ID card both front and back.

The front will confirm their registration and identity, the back will confirm they are authorised to complete the gas work you have employed them to do.

carbon-monox-708x344.jpg
  • A visual inspection of accessible gas pipework should also be completed to ensure the installation is in good condition.
  • Stay aware of the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning; headaches, dizziness, nausea, breathlessness, collapse and loss of consciousness.
  • Unsafe gas appliances can produce a highly poisonous gas called carbon monoxide (CO). It can cause death as well as serious long term health problems such as brain damage.

    • CO is produced by the incomplete burning of natural gas or liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

    • This happens when a gas appliance has been incorrectly fitted, badly repaired or poorly maintained.

    • It can also occur if flues, chimneys or vents are blocked.

  • Poisoning occurs when you breathe in the gas and it replaces oxygen in your bloodstream.
    • Without oxygen, your body tissue and cells die. Even small amounts of the gas can cause CO poisoning, and long term effects can include paralysis and brain damage.
  • Stay aware of the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning; headaches, dizziness, nausea, breathlessness, collapse and loss of consciousness.

An alarm are a strong second line of defence against carbon monoxide poisoning, so buy an audible carbon monoxide alarm and install it (in accordance with manufacturer’s guidelines) near to your gas appliance.

  • Look out for warning signs that a gas appliance isn’t working properly – lazy yellow flames, excessive condensation and black marks/stains.
  • Gas appliances can be unsafe without displaying these symptoms, so best practice is to have them checked every year.
  • Use gas appliances for their intended purposes only, e.g. do not use a cooker to heat a room.
  • Provide enough ventilation for gas appliances to burn correctly and make sure no air vents or chimneys are blocked.
  • If you know of anyone doing gas work outside of Gas Safe registration, they are breaking the law.
  • If you're a tenant in a rented property, make sure your landlord provides you with an annual gas safety check.

Oil Boiler Safety

OFTEC plays the leading role in raising standards within the heating industry professionals of the UK and Republic of Ireland, and it recommends that oil users contract the services of local OFTEC Registered Technicians to service their oil installations.

They operate a UKAS accredited competent person registration scheme for over 8,000 technicians involved in the installation and maintenance of oil, solid fuel, and renewable heating equipment.

Poor or inadequate servicing of any fossil fuel burning appliance can cause the generation of carbon monoxide. It is vital that your oil boiler is checked and serviced at least annually. Having an oil fired boiler serviced regularly can keep it operating at its most efficient. This reduces your fuel bills and saves money on costly call out fees for unexpected breakdowns.

There are many reasons why the efficiency of an oil fired boiler could be reduced. Here are a number of examples:

  • Excessive smoke and partially burnt fuel deposits can cause soot to form within the boiler heat exchanger, restricting the amount of heat that can be transfered into the heating system water.
    • The cleaner the heat exchanger, the more efficient the boiler will be.
  • Oil nozzles regulate how much oil passes through the burner. The nozzles are consumable items that wear overtime affecting combustion and lowering boiler efficiency.
    • If they are not replaced, they could cause “sooting up” of the heat exchanger due to too much fuel passing through the burner.
  • Photocells can glaze over with deposits. Photocells are an important safety feature which detect whether the boiler has lit.
    • If a photocell is dirty it may not be able to detect the burner flame correctly and could cause the boiler to shut down randomly.
  • Electrodes can wear and attract soot and deposits. Electrodes produce a spark to light the fuel, if they are worn or in poor condition the boiler may not light.

As part of the service, appliances should be inspected, cleaned and components replaced as required when the boiler is being serviced. If your boiler is not serviced annually, it is at higher risk of breaking down
and costing you more money.

  • Cleaning the boiler provides a chance to look for other tell tale signs that partsof the boiler may need replacing and anopportunity to inspect the combustion chamber for the condition of the material and welds.
  • Old steel heat exchangers will often leave rust marks, which can give a warning that the boiler will soon need to be replaced. This pro active approach can limit the possibility of water damage occurring and enables replacement work to be planned rather than having the inconvenience of trying to arrange a boiler replacement at short notice when a heat exchanger fails.
  • Long term damage can also occur if the boiler is not serviced regularly.
  • During the combustion process, deposits will build upon the internal surfaces of the heat exchanger and the baffles which can decrease boiler efficiency. These deposits harden and with some designs of heat exchanger render it impossible to remove the baffles without destroying them. A replacement baffle is an additional cost on top of the routine service charge.
